Where do the nuts and seeds grow that Western Nut sells?

We buy from all over the world. Peanuts, almonds, pistachios, pecans and walnuts are domestically grown. Peanuts are actually legumes, and as such, are a crop grown mainly in the southeastern part of the United States. All other nuts grow on trees. Pecans are harvested in Arizona, Georgia, New Mexico and Texas. The almonds, pistachios and walnuts we buy are mainly grown in California. We buy our macadamias from Hawaii, Australia and Africa. Cashews are imported from India, Vietnam and Africa. Filberts, also called hazelnuts, may come from Oregon or Turkey. Brazil nuts are imported from the Amazon region in the countries of Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. Our sunflower kernels come from North and South Dakota, while our pepitas come from China.

What oil is used to roast? Are other ingredients added?

We use 100% highly refined peanut oil for roasting. A small amount of unsweetened corn syrup is only used in salted products to adhere the salt to the nuts.

Do you dry roast nuts?

We dry roast in-shell peanuts on site. Our roast contains no salt. Upon request, we will dry roast shelled peanuts with no salt. However, this is limited to an entire batch. Call for details.

We send an average of 2 emails each month and each will include any promotions or coupons that are active at that time.

What is the shelf life of your product?

We roast one batch at a time with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. Shelf life is dependent upon many factors: the temperature and humidity where the finished product is stored; the ingredients used; the exposure to light. If storage of our product is handled properly, expect the following shelf life:

  • Oil roasted products: 10 to 12 weeks at room temperature; add 2 to 4 weeks by keeping the product cold and in an air-tight container.
  • Dry roasted product typically lasts 6 months or longer.
  • Most raw products will last up to a year in a sealed container and chilled.
  • Brittles have a short life due to butter being a main ingredient. For best taste, we recommend consuming within 4-6 weeks of purchase.

How should I store the nuts I buy? Can I refrigerate them? Can I freeze them?

For the best possible taste and enjoyment, please follow these storage guidelines:

  • Always store nuts in a dry, cool location away from a heat source and direct light.
  • Refrigeration can add 2 to 4 weeks to shelf life if stored in an air-tight container.
  • Freezing is an option. Raw products will have a truer flavor than products that have been roasted, frozen then thawed.
  • Keep nuts away from sources of strong odors which can adversely affect the flavor.
